By joining our World Congress, you join this shared responsibility. Where someone acts against it, we talk with them first; where needed, we ask them to leave.

What kind of gathering this is, what we stand for, and how we are together

An event for people, by people. The World Congress has the spirit of a congress, the curiosity of a conference, the creativity of workshops, the warmth of a camp. For six days we talk, reflect, decide, learn, celebrate and rest together. This is a space we own together, and each of us shares the responsibility for making it welcoming, safe and inspiring for everyone

Our shared values

We are a heart-driven movement of mostly volunteers, championing our core values: human rights and global solidarity; democracy; peace and sustainable development. And we stay fully independent of the alcohol and tobacco industries

Our shared responsibility – how we make this gathering welcoming for all

• Free from alcohol and other drugs, because it lets everyone, including people in recovery, people from households affected by alcohol harms, people of all faiths, and children and youth, take part fully, freely and safely.

• Everyone belongs. People of all ages and of every gender, ethnicity, nationality, creed, sexual orientation, social position and political persuasion. Families and children are part of this Congress. We see each other and give each other space. If you need something to take part fully, such as a quiet moment, a step-free route, a dietary need, a different pace, please tell us. We will do our best to make it work.

• We make room and we include. Those of us who have been here longest make the most room, for newer and younger members, for quieter voices, and together we ensure everyone, even the newest participants feel included and welcome.

• We are curious. We listen generously, disagree openly and kindly, and let each other finish. We speak about people with dignity.

• We keep confidences. People here share personal stories – of recovery, of family, of harm. What someone shares in a session or in conversation stays with those who heard it, unless the person sharing gives permission otherwise.

A few clear rules – in a co-owned space, a few are enough

• No offensive or discriminatory conduct. No unwanted sexual attention. No misrepresenting credentials. No recording others without permission.

• If you are asked to stop a behaviour that is causing someone else discomfort, we expect you to stop immediately.

• Wear your badge.

• Ask before photographing anyone.

• Be on time.

• Parents keep responsibility for their children.

• Is something wrong, or do you simply feel overwhelmed? Safe-space contacts are there for you 24/7. You will meet them at registration, and any volunteer can connect you. We treat everything in confidence and protect everyone who raises a concern.

Across inspiring sessions, decision-taking, and strategic planning, we explore how democracy, knowledge, and compassion can shape the societies we want to live in. Here, every voice matters. Here, everyone belongs.

Curiosity and Inspiration

Leading community innovators, researchers and advocates come together to our conference - Taking people inside change. We invite all participants to share experiences, strategies, and new ideas. It’s a space for collective learning and inspiration for effective alcohol policy advocacy, prevention approaches, recovery support, exposing the alcohol industry’s tactics, and shifting the public discourse.

Hands on Values

We provide dedicated spaces for deeper learning in the workshops. Participants can explore core values of our movement - democracy, justice and human rights and how they apply in alcohol policy change, recovery and mutual help, value-based communication campaigns, alcohol norm shift, sobriety and more.

Democracy in Action

The World Congress is the highest decision-making body of our movement. Our members come together to shape our shared future: we will adopt a new strategic plan, set our direction toward the Framework Convention on Alcohol Control (FCAC), and elect the Board that will lead our work in the coming years. When we act together, our work carries far beyond this Congress. Our decisions and commitments made in Slovenia will resonate across continents, strengthening the movement for justice, democracy, and human rights.

This Congress is about belonging — finding strength in each other, weaving our efforts together, and creating the courage to act. Through various activities and social events we get to experience each other. Join sports sessions, creative workshops, games, crafts, and relaxing wellbeing activities. Whether you want to move, make, learn, or just have fun, you will for sure find something close to your heart and needs.

Kranjska Gora

The 71st World Congress will be held in the stunning alpine area Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. A charming town nestled in the heart of the Julian Alps, close to the borders of Austria and Italy.

Kranjska Gora is known for its dramatic mountain views, pristine nature, and status as a year-round tourist and sports center, providing the perfect backdrop for both reflection and inspiring action.

Getting there

By Air

The most convenient airport is Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU), which is approximately a 45-minute (66 km) drive away. Other nearby options include Klagenfurt Airport (KLU) in Austria (approx. 40 min drive) and Trieste Airport (TRS) in Italy.

By Train & Bus

The nearest train station is in Jesenice, about 20 km away. From there, local buses offer a direct connection to Kranjska Gora.

By Car

The town is well-connected to major motorways via the Karavanke Tunnel (Austria/Slovenia) and the border crossing near Tarvisio (Italy).
